Avant Review

A bruised-credit lender whose administration fee is added to principal and then charged interest, and which settled with the FTC over its servicing.

By Michael Hewitt, Founder & Editor-in-Chief. Rates last checked September 11, 2026.

Our verdict

Up to 9.99% comes off an Avant loan as an administration fee that still accrues interest, a cost worth weighing only if you're below prime and have been declined elsewhere. On $10,000 you'd receive about $9,001 and pay interest on $10,000. A $3.85 million FTC settlement in April 2019 over its servicing keeps the grade low.

Skip it if a prime lender will approve you, or you live in New York, Massachusetts or another state it doesn't serve.
